While nurses carefully control access to the secured obstetrics unit, TCH also provides the Hugs and Kisses® infant protection systems, where infants wear a comfortable ankle strap. New moms wear a wristband matching the baby’s ankle band that activates a “kissing” sound when they come into contact.

By using small radio transmitters combined with state-of-the-art microprocessor, the technology allows staff and family to move freely within the protected zone. The security system ensures no one can remove an infant from the unit without alerting the staff. If an unauthorized attempt to use an exit with an infant occurs, audio alarms sound and doors are automatically locked.
